Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin claims 30,000 jobs will come from a proposal to move the Washington Wizards and Capitals out of Washington, DC. A report breaking down that figure claims the average wage will be $75,000, but it fails to explain the methodology.

Good Jobs First Executive Director Greg LeRoy joined a chorus of voices criticizing the flimsy details:

“Without giving us the underlying assumptions, there’s no way to judge this and there’s every reason to believe that it’s inflated by faulty assumptions,” he said.

University of Texas professor of public policy Heywood Sanders called the report, “a lovely looking document. It is full of no substance whatsoever.”

He told WVTF it failed to detail where the 30,000 figure came from.

“It either assumes that anybody who reads this is totally naive or it’s based on the assumption that the governor of Virginia quoted 30,000 jobs some months ago as the product of this project and they somehow finally had to come up with a document that got close to 30,000,” he said.
