Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist wants to expand the state’s film industry subsidies, even as the two state analyses found they were a losing proposition for the public. One found Floridians were getting 43 cents for each every dollar given to film subsidies. As poor a showing as that is, research in other states has found a much lower return.

Good Jobs First Senior Research Analyst Kasia Tarczynska said film subsidies are “not an effective way to grow good jobs and local economy, citing independent studies across the country.”

Instead of offering “’neffective subsidies,’ she said, Florida should work with other states to end subsidy competition.”
