TIF 101: Get the Tax Facts on TIFs & Tax Abatements

Nationally Recognized Expert on TIFs & Tax Abatements to Speak at St. Louis Public Forum in the 17th Ward

St. Louis, Missouri — Greg LeRoy, executive director of Good Jobs First, a national watchdog group on economic development incentives (including tax increment financing, or TIF), will speak at a public forum in St. Louis on Monday night.

Date:               Monday, October 24, 2022

Time:              6:30 – 8 p.m.

Place:             Adams Elementary School
                        1311 Tower Grove Ave
                        St. Louis, MO, 63110

“TIF has been problematic in Missouri for many years,” said LeRoy. “Thanks to new disclosure requirements, we have even more information about TIF’s unintended effects, especially on schools and other public services. Missouri’s TIF problems are not unique, and TIF can be reformed to cost less and produce more community benefits.”

“By offering this educational forum, we hope to demystify TIF and help community residents understand how it works and how it can be improved,” said AFT Local 420 President Ray Cummings. “We know that great schools are an essential part of an attractive business climate, and we want TIF projects to strengthen our tax base rather than weaken it.”

This forum is presented as a public service by: AFT St. Louis, Local 420, AFL-CIO; Coalition Of Black Trade Unionists, New Community Action, Ecumenical Leadership Council, and Missouri Progressives Action Group.
