Niagara-Gazette: Amazon’s Town of Niagara fulfillment center on track for 2026 completion
“In August of 2022, the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency supported giving the project nearly $124 million in total tax incentives. According to the non-profit watchdog organization Good Jobs First, one of many organizations criticizing the NCIDA for giving these tax breaks, this is the 9th largest subsidy Amazon received as of this month.”
Amazon has completed 20% of construction for a new warehouse in Niagara County, the Niagara-Gazette reported. According to Amazon’s head of economic development for New York, residents in Niagara and neighboring Erie County will apply for some of the (low-paying) jobs.
This is common of economic development subsidies: One community pays the company, but residents from neighboring areas get the jobs. Even in the deals where Amazon has been required to hire locally, as was the case with its Monroe County facility, it later bullies its way out of the agreement with idle threats to abandon a half-completed facility.
